At the February board meeting the board discussed the schedule for this year’s Ooey-Gooey auction. We noted that the first part of each year is full of activities and the church schedule is very full. For example, we are trying to put the budget together for the next fiscal year (July 1, 2019- June 30, 2020) during the first three months. At the same time the Stewardship Committee is working very hard to get their work done so that the budget can be finalized. Many years this involves a special event such as a dinner or breakfast. Committee chairs are also getting prepared for the Annual Meeting in May and are preparing submissions for the annual report.
The Brotherhood of UU Men (BUUM’s) have coordinated the auction for the last several years and have advocated shifting the schedule for the auction back to the fall for at least the last three years. It was noted that the auction had been held in the autumn in the past and was just as well received and successful as it is now. This recommendation takes into account the fact that the church schedule is less hectic and that this is our largest fundraiser. It allows us to get the fundraiser done early enough in the fiscal year to allow the funds to be available.
The Board recommends that we still do a smaller scale fundraiser this spring and several suggestions were made. For example, a trivia night or karaoke night were discussed as well as a haystack dinner but no final decision was made. Details for this will be worked out and communicated well in advance of the event.
