The ninth annual thank-you service on Sunday, June 4, was again filled with witty puns, laughter and applause, but more importantly a deep sense of gratitude for the efforts large and small we put into our beloved faith community.

Started by the Rev. Amy DeBeck when her ministry at UUFE started, the service has continued each year with her and member Geneele Crump putting their heads together to deliver the awards — accompanied by the aforementioned puns — along with prizes for which “every expense was spared.” For instance, outgoing board of trustees president Oxana Werbiansky as well as committee chairs and others stepping down from their roles received a plastic clothes hanger for “hanging it up.”

Katrina Wilson received the Knocked Our Socks Off Award, the thank-you service’s top honor. Wilson has chaired the Lifespan Religious Committee, edits the church’s monthly newsletter, helped with pastoral care needs and agreed to fill a temporary vacancy on the board of trustees midway through the year.
