Society of Radical Readers-Feb. 3rd, 7 pm
Have you ever wondered why some groups have secret handshakes? Or why, at some sites, religious pilgrims will scale a long flight of steps on their knees? Or what’s the deal with fire walking? To find out, join us at 7pm on February 3, for a discussion of Dimitris Xyglatas’ book Ritual: How Seemingly Senseless Acts Make Life Worth Living. Xygalatas, a social anthropologist, explores the variety of ways that humans around the world seek meaning through their rituals, from sports fan traditions to religious ceremonies to fire walking. The book is available through Amazon and Barnes and Noble, in tangible and e-reader formats.
The Society of Radical Readers is a book study group open to all to attend.
